Love the integrated approach, SO easy to use, October 3, 2012

We are new to homeschooling, and an experienced homeschooling friend recommended this series to us. I REALLY like it. It is EXTREMELY easy to use. The lessons are all laid out very clearly and are easy to follow for both parent and student. It does not require a bunch of prep or time to get ready, you basically just open up the book and get started. I’m finding it to be a very student-led kind of book, I don’t have to explain much.

I really like that this series uses an ‘integrated language’ approach. Rather than teaching English concepts separately from each other, each lesson teaches grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, spelling, penmanship, and thinking skills. I think this is a great approach. The lessons are very easy to understand.

The full kit includes “The Green Book” (this is the parent’s book and has all the answers), the Student Activity Book (this has all the exercises written in larger print (minus the answers) as well as space to write, and the 3 novels (The Star of Light, Adam and His Kin, and Much Ado About Nothing). Some people like to buy JUST “The Green Book” for their student to use (covering the answers with a piece of paper) and check the novels out at the library. I bought the whole kit because the libraries in my area do not have the required novels, and I really like the way the Student Activity Book is laid out better than The Green Book. My child can do the work right in the workbook, it’s 3-ring punched so he can put it in his binder and easily take it with him, and it’s laid out in a more clear, easy to follow way. I think it’s worth it.

There are 11 units divided into 36 weeks (some take longer or shorter time) but I find that we can often do several lessons at a time. Every 3 lessons or so there are assessments so you know that your student is learning/remembering the material. Really like this series, would definitely purchase again.

We are really liking this program! There were a couple of passages with religious content that we did not expect but we were easily able to skip over those and use something else instead.
